Supporting food security & community resilience

Our organization’s story.

Harbor founder in community garden
Our origin

One neighborhood, one garden, one belief.

In 2012, our founder Sasha noticed something stark: the neighborhood had no access to fresh food, yet had dozens of vacant lots. She organized neighbors, reclaimed one corner lot, and started growing.

That first garden fed 30 families. Today, Harbor operates 14 gardens across the city. But the principle is the same: communities know what they need, and when we provide land, tools, and support, they thrive.

Food security isn't charity—it's dignity, resilience, and collective power.

What we believe

Community-led

Neighborhoods know what they need. We listen, partner, and follow their lead. Every decision reflects community voice.

Food justice

Access to fresh food is a right, not a privilege. We center low-income neighborhoods and dismantle barriers to food sovereignty.

Equity always

Our board, staff, and garden leads reflect the neighborhoods we serve. We pay living wages and hire locally.
